Victus Haze
Program
- Victus Haze is a responsive demonstration space mission designed to enhance Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS) capabilities. This mission, utilizing Rocket Lab’s Electron and Pioneer spacecraft, will launch with just 24 hours’ notice, demonstrating rapid deployment and operational readiness.
Experience from 2024
- Served as lead structural analyst for Victus Haze from initial concept to Preliminary Design Review (PDR).
- Developed simplified component-level and detailed PDR vehicle-level Finite Element Models (FEMs), ensuring adherence to Electron mission requirements and performance standards utilizing Simcenter 3D, NX Nastran and SATK.
- Performed static and dynamic FEA on primary and secondary structures including quasi-static, random vibration, buckling, bolted joint, payload environmental derivation and shock attenuation.
- Conducted iterative design changes at both sub-system and system-level before PDR to ensure ample positive margins in structure with design resolutions for areas of concern.
- Presented PDR structural analysis to customers and leadership, effectively providing a design path forward to CDR.
- Documented all analysis methodologies, assumptions and analysis models, then mentored a junior analyst in fundamental structural reasoning and software to ensure program continuity and success.
Achievements
- Successfully led structural efforts for Victus Haze’s PDR, receiving highly positive feedback from U.S. Space Force.
- Completed CDR-level finite element modeling and analysis ahead of PDR, delivering a structurally sound design with ample positive margins and addressing minor areas of concern with clear design paths forward, all within a two-month timeframe.
